Many former students of Cumbrae have gone on to professional careers in the wonderful world of dance. The following examples are included here with their kind permission.

Amber Harvie, Ms.

 
Amber Leigh Harvie

Amber Leigh Harvie, an accomlished dancer and choreographer, is currently a faculty member in the Music Theatre program at Sheridan College.  Amber is also currently teaching and choreographing at a number of reputable schools in Ontario.

Growing up in Ottawa, Amber trained at the Cumbrae School of Dancing, where she received her teaching certificates in jazz, tap and highland, as well as her RAD Advanced ballet certificate.  While in Ottawa Amber performed numerous times with the Ottawa Ballet, in their production of 'The Tin Soldier', as well as with Les Grand Ballets Canadiens in 'The Nutcracker'.

Furthering her dance training, Amber moved to New York, where she received a full scholarship at Steps on Broadway, as well as many opportunities to perform, and assist choreographers such as Patti Wilcox and Karin Baker.

Amber has also has among her credits a Broadway-based production of '42nd Street' in Moscow.  Other credits include Fashion Cares 2002/2003, "Unity" with Cyndi Lauper, "Time Steps" musical in New York, and various other benefits and live industrials.  Some of her television and film credits include; PBS "A Musical Theatre Special", and the NBC film "Dying to Dance".  Amber has also danced abroad with Silversea Cruiselines, and has choreographed for "The Tom Green Show". In addition, she has made trips to Asia to perform with top Asian singer Sally Yeh, with audiences of 15,000 people, in Hong Kong and Malaysia.

 
 

Ipsita Paul, Ms.

 
Ipsita Paul

Ipsita was one of the students in our first infant class when the Cumbrae School opened in Ottawa in 1979. She was with the school as a student, took her teacher's training at the school, and subsequently taught at Cumbrae until she left Ottawa to seek, and achieve, fame and fortune.

Ipsita's credits include Never Gonna Dance on Broadway, Contact in its National Tour (NAACP Theatre Award Nomination), The Music Man and Footloose, both also on Broadway, and the National Tour of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.

 

 
 

Lisa Harvie, Ms.

Originally from Ottawa, Canada, Lisa Harvie trained at the Cumbrae Dance Centre, where she began teaching at the age of sixteen. She is fully qualified under the British Association of Teachers of Dancing for tap, jazz and highland and has attained the Advanced level of ballet under the Royal Academy of Dancing. She has performed with both The Ottawa Ballet and Les Grands Ballets Canadiens.

Ms. Harvie holds a B.A. in Criminology from the University of Toronto, which she achieved while continuing her dance training at Metro Movement and Randolph School of the Arts.

Since moving to New York in 1997, Lisa has performed in a National Tour of West Side Story, as well as in regional productions of Kiss Me Kate, Oklahoma (Dream Laurey), Footloose and Scrooge. She played the part of Louise in Carousel at Stages St. Louis and performed in My Fair Lady for both Houston Theatre Under the Stars and Dallas Summer Musicals, She has worked as Associate Choreographer on two productions at the Gateway Playhouse and continues to teach at workshops throughout Canada and the U.S.

Lisa currently teaches at the prestigious dance school "Steps on Broadway" in New York. She is also on staff at the Connecticut Dance Conservatory and is part of the new dance program at The School at Columbia University.

Lisa's most recent performance was in Houston, Texas, perfoming in a production of "Singin in the Rain" for Theatre Under the Stars

Melissa Boehner

 
Melissa

Former Cumbrae student Melissa Boehner recently appeared under her stage name, Melissa-Jane Shaw, in "George and Gracie" at the Harbourfront Jubilee Theatre in Summerside, PEI and in other locations during a tour of the Maritimes. The show performed at the Fergus Grand Theatre on September 24th and 25th.

Melissa' previous credits in Canada and US include singer/actor for Netherlander Ent., NYC; Chorus Line, Ross Petty Panto, Crazy For You, and Maggie's Getting Married.
