| All teachers at Cumbrae are fully qualified and registered members of a recognized dance teachers association. For our ballet classes, we follow the syllabus of the Royal Academy of Dance (R.A.D.). Our jazz, tap, and highland classes are taught by teachers qualified through the British Association of Teachers of Dancing (an international association despite its title). Our Irish dancing is taught by a Certified Teacher of Irish Dancing (T.C.R.G.). | Marion Harvie, Mrs. cumbrae_dance@hotmail.com | | | Mrs. Marion Harvie, Cumbrae's Principal and owner, completed her dance training in Scotland. She is a Teaching Member of the The Royal Academy of Dance (R.A.D) and a Fellow and Teaching Member of the British Association of Teachers of Dancing (B.A.T.D.). Mrs. Harvie is also a Life Member of the B.A.T.D., and held the position of Chairperson of the Eastern Ontario Branch for fifteen years. She is presently the B.A.T.D. Area Treasurer. Mrs. Harvie moved to Ottawa in 1979 with her husband Jim, and three children, Derek, Lisa, and Amber. She started teaching in local schools and at the Orleans Recreational Complex, before establishing permanent locations, first on Montreal Road in Rothwell Heights, and subsequently in Blackburn Hamlet. Since purchasing our present location in 1986, she has expanded from one to three studios, plus a dance store. Over the past years Mrs. Harvie has taught as a guest teacher at many other schools and Summer Dance Camps. Mrs. Harvie spends her free time with the Ottawa Cumbrae Dancers. Her young company performs for retirement homes, hospitals, and many other charitable organizations in Ottawa. | | | |
| | | | | | | | | Meghan Baker, Miss | | | Meghan has danced with the Cumbrae School of Dancing since she was three years old. She has trained in ballet, jazz, tap & hip hop. She has successfully completed RAD Advanced 1 ballet. In 2000, Meghan became a member of the BATD, in jazz. While continuing her dance training at Cumbrae, Meghan is presently completing her bachelor of Economics at the University of Ottawa where she is also part of the dance team. | | | |
| | | Chantal Carriere, Miss | | | Chantal Carriere has been dancing at Cumbrae as a student and a teacher for 22 years. She achieved her teacher certification with the British Association of Teachers of Dancing (BATD) and was accredited as a teacher with the Royal Academy of Dance (RAD), both through her studies at the school. Chantal has been teaching ballet and jazz at Cumbrae for the past nine years, as well as being a guest teacher and choreographer for various dance studios and gymnastic clubs throughout the Ottawa region. Chantal has appeared in many performances with Kaboom Inc. in Toronto, and has attended the prestigious American Theatre Dance Workshop in New York. She has also appeared at the National Arts Centre in "The Nutcracker" with Les Grands Ballets Canadiens. She studied at L'Ecole de la Salle in Ottawa and has a degree in Psychology and a certificate in labour relations from the University of Ottawa. | | | |
| | | Natasha Cinanni, Assistant Associate Student Teacher | | | | This year we welcome Natasha Cinanni to our faculty. Natasha has been studying dance at the school since she was seven years old and is preparing for her Associate Stage Teachers' Examination under the auspices of the British Association Teachers of Dancing next spring. Natasha also trains in ballet, jazz, modern, and hip-hop. She is a member of the Ottawa Cumbrae Dancers and performs regularly around the Ottawa area with our dance-out team. | | | |
| | | Christa Cullain, Miss | | |  At the age of four, Christa began her training in Western Canada and never looked back. She has performed and successfully competed in amateur and professional venues throughout North America and Overseas. Christa has danced with a variety of performing companies throughout Canada and the UK, including the opening and closing ceremonies for the Alberta Winter Games. Christa continues to perform in local musical productions. Her most recent credits include; Grease (Cha Cha), Sweet Charity (Viviane) and Crazy For You (Elaine). Christa has studied under a variety of dance associations such as R.A.D, I.S.T.D, C.D.T.A and Cecchetti Ballet, receiving her teacher certification with the B.A.T.D at Cumbrae. Since moving to the Ottawa area, Christa has taught for Dance Schools, Gymnastic Clubs, and the Ottawa-Carleton Catholic School Board. She has taught Jazz, Tap, Hip-Hop and Musical Theatre at Cumbrae since 2000. When not teaching at Cumbrae, Christa is an Instructor Therapist for CHEO’s Pre-School Autism Program. | | | |
| | | Ping Feng, Mr. | | |  Feng Ping - Formerly Soloist, Ottawa Ballet. Mr. Feng is a graduate of the Beijing Dance Academy, and holds a B.A. in Dance Ed., from Beijing U. His professional performing experience includes the Beijing Dance Academy Ballet Company (Central Ballet of China), Les Ballet Jazz of Montreal, 1990-92 and Theater Ballet, Ottawa Ballet. He has extensive teaching experience in both classical ballet and character and has been teaching at Cumbrae since 1996. | | | |
| | | Kristen Wilson, Mrs. | | |  Kristen Wilson (née Quinn) danced with the Cumbrae School of Dance as a student for over 10 years. She achieved her teacher certification with the British Association of Teachers of Dancing (BATD) in both tap and jazz and is a full member of the Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) in ballet. Over the past 15 years, Kristen has been choreographing and teaching ballet, tap and jazz for various reputable schools throughout Ontario including the Canadian School of Dance in Ottawa, Hamilton's Steps Performing School of the Arts and McMaster University's Recreational Dance Program.
Kristen's dance development was supplemented with additional training at the Banff School for Performing Arts, the Royal Winnipeg Ballet, Le Jazz Hot, as well as the Kingston School of Dance under the teachings of Len Stepanick. Ms. Quinn also holds a Bachelor of Commerce from McMaster University. | | | |
| | | Sarah Shea, Miss | | |  Sarah has been Irish dancing for 22 years. She has trained first with the Dougherty School of Dancing and then with the Trillium Academy of Irish Dance and is currently a TCRG in training. Sarah was a Assistant Teacher for several years with the Dougherty School of Dancing and has been enjoying teaching with the Cumbrae School of Dancing for the past 5 years. She has performed in many television shows, concerts and benefit shows, and still performs regularly around the Ottawa area. She has won many awards in competitions in Canada and Internationally. Sarah instructs both Irish hard and soft shoe, traditional Irish Set dances, Ceili group dances, as well as modern choreography. As well as teaching dancing and performing Sarah is attending Carleton University, studying in the department of psychology. | | | |
