About the School

THE CUMBRAE SCHOOL OF DANCING opened its doors in the spring of 1979 to provide high quality dance training to people of all ages living in Orleans/Gloucester and surrounding Ottawa areas.  The dance school operates on a very high standard grade system, and students who have reached the required standard may take examinations each year.  We believe every student deserves special treatment and we encourage more serious students to pursue careers in dance.

Our three dance studios offer a warm and friendly atmosphere.  All three of our studio floors are sprung and covered with Marley flooring to create a safe dance surface.   Studios are spacious and airy, and all have natural lighting.

The dance classes are well structured, and students gain a sense of achievement as they progress from one level to the next.  We limit class sizing so that each student receives personal attention from our instructors.  All instructors are qualified under either the Royal Academy of Dance, The British Association of Teachers of Dancing, and/or the CLRG (An Coimisium le Rinci Gaelacha).

Our school is not a competition school, as we prefer to concentrate on training students for examinations and obtaining professional qualifications. Our Highland and Irish dancers do compete at local and international events.  Cumbrae students do ‘dance out’ for local organizations, hospitals, schools and senior citizens homes in the Ottawa area.  We also offer a family friendly Open House in December, and students perform in our end of year recital in May/June.
